Why Your Busyness Is Blocking Your Blessing

Science proves the cost of busyness

The “Cult of Hustle” tells you to fill every minute. “Hollow Wellness” tells you to fill it with yourself. But God often works in the space we refuse to leave empty.

When my schedule cost me something sacred

A few years ago, my aunt grew sick. My wife encouraged me to go visit her, but I kept putting it off. There were projects to finish, goals to chase, and bills to pay. I thought I had more time.

By the time I stopped long enough to realize how serious it was, she was gone. I missed the chance to say goodbye. That loss exposed how blind busyness can make you. I wasn’t running from God, but I was running past moments He wanted to use to shape me.

I was chasing progress, not realizing that the greatest success is being present. That moment changed how I see the gift of time. I still struggle with slowing down, but now I pause to check on people, especially those who are sick or struggling. Every time I do, I feel something heal inside me. Caring for others rebuilds empathy, and empathy restores wholeness.

Scripture exposes the trap

Luke 10:41–42“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

Jesus didn’t rebuke Martha for serving. He invited her to see that love comes before labor.

The saints warned us about hurry

St. Francis de Sales wrote, “Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit.” The holy life was never meant to be hurried. When pace replaces peace, blessings pass unseen.

Science proves the cost of busyness

Research on chronic stress shows that multitasking and overwork reduce creativity, empathy, and memory. The prefrontal cortex, your brain’s center for decision-making, tires quickly under constant activity. This leads to poor judgment and burnout.

A spiritual way to slow down

  • Begin your day with one minute of silence before opening your phone.

  • Say a short prayer before each major task: “Lord, help me do this with peace.”

  • Schedule at least one hour this week for genuine rest: no screens, no striving.

Why this matters for professionals

Busyness feels productive, but it numbs the soul. The “Cult of Hustle” glorifies exhaustion. “Hollow Wellness” hides it behind shallow comfort. Blue Church Living restores the ancient rhythm of rest, prayer, and attention to God’s voice. That is where blessing flows.

When your schedule is surrendered, your soul becomes spacious enough for grace.
