A Trick To Use A Common House Mirror To Improve Your Mood
The Health Benefits of Walking Upright

I saw this online and it reminded me of something….
"lol just a pair of glasses? What a lame disguise"
Christopher Reeve put this to bed in 1978. In this scene, he plays both Clark Kent AND Superman, switching between them in the span of 25 seconds with literally just acting.
Look at his posture. Look at that expression of confidence, and the way he carries himself. His shoulders draw back and he stretches his chest out as Superman, where Clark Kent hunches over and talks into his chest. His voice lowers as Superman, to a deeper, booming baritone whereas Clark is meek and stammering with a higher pitch.
That's two completely different men in that picture, both played by the same guy. Yeah, the glasses sure help, but it's all 100% the performance that convinces you that these are two different people.
Christopher Reeve was a master of acting.”
I saw a study that said the following: “Participants were randomly assigned to the expansive or contractive condition, where the openness of the arms/legs and the back position were manipulated. Posture was monitored by an electronic device and participants filled out several self-reported measures. ANCOVAs, moderation, mediation, and moderated mediated analyses were performed. Results showed that women in the expansive condition showed higher positive emotions after the ME. Moreover, exploratory analyses showed that adopting an expansive posture improved positive emotions, leading to improvements in negative emotions, body image satisfaction, and appraisal of the person’s own body.”
How you stand and walk, we knew already contributes to how others perceive you, but it also seems to contribute to overall positive perception of yourself. Obviously, further study may be needed, but this is amazing information!
Begin practicing in a mirror how you walk and stand. You just might improve your mood and how you view yourself. (And we know health starts in the mind, then flows to the body)
It is interesting then, that the scriptures often associate uprightness or walking upright as a positive thing. Though we know in those verses it's usually talking about the condition of the heart towards God and neighbor, I think it wouldn't be a stretch, considering the latest science, to take a spiritual concept and apply it to the physical; that walking upright with your body has positive and healthy benefits for the mind and body.
Psalm 7:10 - "My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart."
Psalm 11:7 - "For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face."
Psalm 37:37 - "Mark the blameless and behold the upright, for there is a future for the man of peace."
Psalm 112:4 - "Light dawns in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious, merciful, and righteous."
Proverbs 2:21 - "For the upright will inhabit the land, and those with integrity will remain in it."
Proverbs 14:2 - "Whoever walks in uprightness fears the Lord, but he who is devious in his ways despises him."
As you are reading scripture, and you encounter these verses on uprightness, use them as a prompt to remind yourself to stand and walk upright, both in heart and in body, for your mental and physical health.
“Now if we are willing to examine the Scriptures in this way, carefully and systematically, we shall be able to obtain our salvation. If we unceasingly are preoccupied with them, we shall learn both correctness of doctrine and an upright way of life. — St. John Chrysostom, Homily 53, Homilies on the Gospel of John […]
