The Battle You Don’t See (But Feel Every Day)
(Chronic Stress Is Spiritual Warfare)
When the enemy can’t shake your faith, he targets your health. He brings pressure, not chaos. Exhaustion, not explosions. The kind of stress that feels normal because everyone else is living in it. That is why it works.
I realized this years ago when I began studying the psychosomatic teachings of the early Church Fathers. Something clicked. Stress wasn’t random. The systems of this world, the “Cult of Hustle,” were intentionally designed to wear people down. Satan uses these systems to attack both the spirit and the body. A tired believer is easier to distract. A burned-out believer is easier to defeat.
When stress became a spiritual battle for me
My body was showing signs long before I understood the cause. Irritability. Burnout. Tension in my shoulders. Exhaustion. Anxiety that made everything feel heavier. I wanted rest, strength, focus, and stability. Yet hustling made all of those things harder. Burnout led to cravings for comfort foods. Those foods affected my health, which in turn affected my spiritual life.
Stress wasn’t just emotional. It was spiritual pressure showing up physically.
Today, I fight back with prayer, Scripture, and slow breathing. These aren’t minor practices. They are counterattacks. They are how I step out of the pressure Satan uses to disrupt my clarity and peace.
And it is a daily choice. You don’t escape the “Cult of Hustle” one time. You opt out every day.
Scripture unmasks the real battle
Ephesians 6:12 — “We wrestle not against flesh and blood…”
Stress is not only biology.
It is often spiritual pressure pressing through the body.
The saints warned us about this
St. Porphyrios taught that when the soul is troubled, the body soon follows.
Exhaustion, irritability, and physical symptoms were never seen as small things.
They were signs that the heart needed guarding.
Science explains the weapon
Chronic stress floods the body with cortisol, which drives:
• stubborn belly weight
• anxiety
• hormone imbalance
• brain fog
• poor sleep
• inflammation
• fatigue
Cortisol weakens the immune system and disrupts the nervous system. It makes you easier to discourage and harder to focus. Stress is not neutral. It is a weapon.
The “Cult of Hustle” calls this normal.
“Hollow Wellness” offers supplements and spa days.
Blue Church Living names it for what it is:
warfare against your peace, body, and soul.
A simple way to fight back today
• Practice slow breathing twice to calm cortisol
• Step outside for five minutes of sunlight after lunch
• Whisper the Jesus Prayer until your shoulders drop
These are not small steps. They are spiritual resistance.
Why this matters for professionals
Stress is today’s battlefield.
The enemy uses pressure to pull you away from your assignment and weaken your resilience.
But grace gives strength, clarity, and endurance.
Your peace is not optional. It is armor.
Guard your nervous system. Strengthen your spirit.
Your health is part of your spiritual protection.
