Something christian professionals need to think about in 2025

Becoming Whole: The Peace of the Incarnation and Theosis

For Christian professionals, life often feels like a constant balancing act—managing careers, family, personal goals, and spiritual commitments. In this busy world, the profound truths of our faith can become powerful sources of peace and wholeness. One such truth lies in the relationship between the Incarnation and Theosis, summarized in this quote:

"To become human was God’s destiny; to become like (and one with) God is human destiny."

This statement speaks to the very heart of our existence, offering a roadmap for finding peace amid the demands of daily life.

God’s Destiny: The Gift of the Incarnation

The Incarnation reveals God’s incredible love and humility. In taking on human nature, God entered our world not as an outsider but as one of us, experiencing our struggles, joys, and pains. This act of divine condescension wasn’t a reaction to human sin but an eternal plan. God’s destiny was always to become human, to dwell among us and unite Himself with His creation.

For Christian professionals, this truth serves as a powerful reminder that God understands our challenges intimately. He chose to walk in the same complexities of life that we face, showing us that divinity is not separate from humanity. Contemplating this can bring peace, as it assures us that no matter how chaotic or demanding life feels, God is present within it.

Human Destiny: The Call to Theosis

Theosis, or deification, is the process of becoming like God. Through the Incarnation, Christ opened the door for humanity to share in His divine life. Our ultimate destiny isn’t limited to worldly success or temporary achievements but is to be united with God, transformed by His grace.

This perspective shifts our priorities. It reminds us that our worth isn’t tied to our professional performance or societal status but to our identity as children of God, called to reflect His glory. Embracing this truth brings wholeness, as it allows us to see ourselves and our work in the context of God’s eternal purpose.

Finding Peace in the Tension

The dual truths of the Incarnation and Theosis invite us to hold two realities in tension:

  • God became human, showing us the sacredness of our earthly lives.

  • We are called to become like God, transcending the limitations of this world.

This tension isn’t a burden but a gift. It reminds us that our daily work and relationships are infused with divine meaning while pointing us toward a greater destiny beyond this life.

Practical Steps to Embrace Peace and Wholeness

  1. Reflect on God’s Presence in Your Work
Whatever your profession, view it as an opportunity to participate in God’s creative work. Whether you’re teaching, leading, serving, or innovating, your efforts can reflect the divine image.

  2. Practice Prayerful Awareness
Throughout the day, pause to remember God’s presence within and around you. This simple practice can ground you in the truth of the Incarnation and calm your anxieties.

  3. Pursue Growth in Holiness
Theosis is a process, not a one-time event. Dedicate time to prayer, scripture, and the sacraments, allowing God’s grace to transform you into His likeness.

  4. Reframe Success
Define success not by worldly standards but by how well you reflect Christ’s love and humility in your actions. This shift can free you from the relentless pressure to perform and achieve.

  5. Seek Community
Surround yourself with fellow believers who encourage you in your journey toward Theosis. Sharing this path with others can provide strength and inspiration.

Wholeness in God’s Plan

The Incarnation and Theosis together reveal the fullness of God’s plan: to bring humanity into union with Himself. By contemplating this truth, Christian professionals can find peace in knowing that their lives, however complex, are part of a divine story.

God’s destiny was to become human. Our destiny is to become like Him. Embracing this reality brings wholeness, reminding us that we are never alone, and that every moment of our lives holds eternal significance.
