This might be your missing super power

Why mastering delayed gratification, can help bring wholeness and health.

The meme, while humorous, actually shows a truth. Small sacrifices are often overlooked as unimportant and insignificant.

In the below video, I talked about how important delayed gratification is for success, especially for Christian professionals and entrepreneurs. Delayed gratification means putting off something you want right now so you can have something better later. This is a key to growing in business, life, and faith.

What Is Delayed Gratification?

Right at the start of the video, I explained that delayed gratification is really important if you want to be successful. Proverbs 21:17 tells us, "Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man." One layer of meaning in that verse is, if you're always chasing quick rewards, you’ll miss out on real success in the long run. This applies to everything—from money and business to personal growth.

Successful Entrepreneurs Know How to Wait

One thing I pointed out is that many successful business people know how to wait. They don’t spend their first big paycheck on fancy things like cars or vacations. Instead, they reinvest their money back into their business. This makes the business grow over time. By holding off on spending, they end up much more successful than if they had spent all their money right away.

My Own Experience with Delayed Gratification

I also shared a story from my own life. I once made a good decision by investing in insurance in my early 20’s, which was smart. But then, I made a mistake by buying a new car when I didn’t really need it. Sure, it was exciting at the time, but it had a negative effect on my long-term finances. This taught me that sometimes it’s better to wait and think about how your decisions will affect you in the future. Will you thank yourself in 10 years, for the decision you made today?

How to Apply Delayed Gratification in Life

Delayed gratification isn’t just about money, though. It applies to many areas of life. In the video, I talked about making small sacrifices now so you can have bigger rewards later. One example I gave was intermittent fasting, which is good for your health and helps build discipline. By practicing faith and self-control, you get stronger in all parts of life. Waiting for something better can make a huge difference.

Wisdom from the Bible

Toward the end of the video, I shared some "life hacks" from the Bible, especially from the book of Proverbs. Proverbs is full of advice on how to live a disciplined life. I also talked about David from the Bible, who used smaller challenges to build confidence for bigger ones.

Success takes time.

Whether it’s in business, health, or faith, we need to learn how to wait for bigger rewards. Delayed gratification helps us build patience and character, and in the end, it leads to much greater blessings than we could get from instant gratification.
