In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus addresses the concern about worrying for the future in Matthew 6:34, where He says, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." This verse is part of the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus encourages His followers to trust in God's provision and focus on living righteously in the present moment, rather than being anxious about what the future holds.
"Fear not" is a recurring theme in various scriptures, offering comfort and reassurance. In Isaiah 41:10, it is written, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Similarly, in Joshua 1:9, the scripture encourages, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." In the New Testament, 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds believers, "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."
Regardless of who wins today…40-60% of the population will have anxiety about the results, or in some cases, spending time figuring out how to overturn those results, or stop them from being overturned.
Here’s 5 things you can do to prevent political anxiety in 2025:
- Prayer and Reflection: Engaging in regular prayer and reflection can help a Christian find peace and clarity amidst political turmoil. By focusing on spiritual practices, individuals can center themselves and seek divine guidance, reducing anxiety and fostering a sense of calm.
- Community Support: Participating in church activities and discussions can provide a supportive environment where individuals can share their concerns and receive encouragement. Being part of a faith community offers a sense of belonging and reassurance, helping to alleviate feelings of isolation and anxiety.
- Scriptural Guidance: Turning to the Bible for wisdom and perspective can help a Christian navigate political anxiety. Scripture offers timeless teachings on trust, patience, and the transient nature of worldly affairs, reminding believers to place their hope in God rather than in political outcomes. In scripture we find stories of people who lived during uncertain economic and political times.
- Focus on Eternal Values: By prioritizing eternal values over temporal political issues, a Christian can maintain a balanced perspective. Emphasizing love, compassion, and justice as taught by Christ can guide individuals in making thoughtful decisions without becoming overwhelmed by the political climate.
- Limit Media Consumption: Reducing exposure to constant news updates and political commentary can help manage anxiety levels. By setting boundaries on media consumption, individuals can protect their mental and emotional well being.
In addition those five, remember to take walks in nature, spend time with family and friends, eat healthy meals, and go to the gym. Hug someone for 20 seconds or more.
